Update following `black` and `pylint` #213

I'm not sure whether this will work @michaeldorman, @Robinlovelace and other but I have refactored the code using black formatting and based on the output from pylint.

What's the code used for this? Could we integrate easily with a GitHub action?

Closing for now, would be good to get auto code styling and follow an official style, it's just how to keep it up to date that's the question.
