¿Cómo traduciríais Ground-truthing? #7

En el archivo Aerial imagery considerations aparece la expresión "Ground-truthing" en el siguiente contexto:

Tracing over imagery is both an easy and powerful way to contribute to OSM. Especially when resolution is high and skies are clear, digitizing from satellite imagery can provide the skeleton of OSM maps. This is useful because it makes ground-truthing, or gathering attribute data, easier for people in the field.

Según Wikipedia es el proceso de comprobar en campo a qué se corresponde lo que se observa en una imagen. ¿Alguna sugerencia de cómo traducir esta expresión?

A eso en topografía (en España) siempre lo hemos llamado "trabajo de campo" puede que no quede muy literal pero yo "perdería" literalidad y ganaría en un español menos forzado.

Como se suele decir "Traductore Traitore"
