Improved visibility of storing App-references in geonetwork

Geonetwork has quite some opportunities to describe App(lication)s in the catalogue. However this functionality is hardly used. Which is kind of sad, since there are quite some similar products out there which sell their product by targeting an app-store concept. Providing apps to users makes it easier for them to start using the data (and/or interact with the data).

I suggest following changes:

• In html5ui-header add a checkbox to filter on category=application-only (actually it could replcace the check "No direct download").
• We could provide an iso19139 template for apps
• On the splash page we can add a list of "featured Apps"

What is an app?

• it can be a link to a webbased application
• It can be a link to a zip-file or github repo where users can download the app
• it can be a link to an android/apple/windows store where people can download and install the mobile app.
• it can be a WMC (map context) which can be opened in the geonetwork map-viewer

Sounds good Paul, and there is already some (GN) catalog describing apps.

Also note, that coming version of ISO19115 will add "application" to the list of MD_ScopeCode.

About WMC, I'm not sure that should be considered as an application but as a map. And in the top checkbox filter I think it could be better to have :

• datasets
• maps
• services
• apps

... which are the main categories of records to search for.
