dipole solutions - coordinate free mathematical statement #488

Open lheagy opened 7 years ago

Right now, the solutions for dipoles in homogeneous media are stated as in Ward and Hohmann, with the coordinates laid out and a specific orientation selected. This is valuable, but personally, I find the more compact solution in which the dipole moment is treated as a vector perhaps more enlightening in some cases. This might be worth including - thoughts @dccowan, @sgkang, @dougoldenburg

Or at least spherical coordinates

That would be nice but the derivation is so much easier to understand as it is written now. We would however make a statement that a change in coordinate system can be used to solve the problem for any orientation.
