I'm actually still running 10.11.6 myself (old, I know!), so I'm not in a position currently to really assist with this. I was not planning on updating my copy of Mac OS over the short-term due to some compatibility issues I would encounter with some other software I use.
If anyone else reading this issue has any ideas, I'm sure we'd all appreciate any help with this!
Could you tell me what version of Java you're running?
(If you don't know how to check this, open up Terminal and run java -version
)
Thanks for the swift reply! Sorry I've been away due to some family affairs, but I took a look today using terminal and it says:
"java version "9.0.1" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.1+11) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 9.0.1+11, mixed mode)"
Thanks again!
Hi I'm still having issues with this as well. The update caused my Mac to freeze up randomly while Llanfair is open. Will this ever be fixed? I heavily rely on this software so I REALLY hope it gets fixed eventually!
If I could reproduce the problem, then I could probably (hopefully) do something about it. But across 3 computers all running 10.13.5 (my iMac and MBP, and also my work MBP) I cannot reproduce this issue.
Hi, I'd like to add my experience as well. I have also been having this problem, I experienced it for the very first time THE VERY SAME DAY I updated my OS, and it has been recurring since. I just tested out Llanfair to make sure it still happens, and it does. Allow me to note my experience:
The problem only happens when Llanfair is open, and has only started happening since the latest OS update. If Llanfair manages to be closed the problem immediately goes away. Mac OS is currently 10.13.6
The problem (as I experience it, anyway): mouse/trackpad input lags to the extent it looks almost like computer is crashing. All of a sudden, mouse movements and clicks just stop registering. Takes anywhere from 5-15 seconds at a time for input to register, or it doesn't go through at all. Navigating to close the program is a nightmare because you have to swipe the trackpad in the right general direction, wait and see if it registers, trial and error until it's in the right place, then right-click a bunch of times until one of them goes through, again swipe to navigate over 'quit' and hope it's the right motion and it goes through, once it's over the appropriate command spam left-click until it goes through. Once program closes everything immediately resumes normal activity.
Note: the last test I just did had a stream playing in the background on another tab and the stream audio kept playing unbothered the whole time. It seems like the computer is more or less behaving normally but there's an issue with it registering mouse inputs.
I am able to stream because for some reason if I open everything I need, open Llanfair, then open OBS and start streaming, and all I do is split in Llanfair, the issue never occurs. This is true for 10+ hour streams. But if I open Llanfair too early and have it just open and idle while I do other things, that's when we start seeing issues.
For some reason, the easiest way to trigger it seems to be the splits editor. Sometimes it starts misbehaving after a couple seconds in the splits editor, sometimes after minutes and multiple edited splits, but regardless I can never finish all the editing work I want to do on the splits in one sitting without this issue occurring.
I hope this helps. Thank you!
EDIT: tested a couple more things - had the video of a stream running in the background, and as with the audio, it kept playing completely as normal while inputs froze up. So everything seems to run as normal it's just the inputs. ALSO, I tried typing in a chat window while the issue was occurring, and as with the mouse movements and clicks the keyboard inputs froze for 5-10 seconds at a time, at the same time as the mouse movements ceased. So it's not just the mouse, but also typing, that is affected.
EDIT EDIT: now that's interesting. Not sure if this is true for every "crash" as I've never tested it before, but this time, once the problem started, if I did not click anything and ONLY moved the mouse/trackpad, or typed in a field I was already clicked on, there was absolutely no lag or delay. Everything worked as usual. But the second I click on the left or right mouse, it freezes and the mouse/other inputs would cease to respond completely for the 5-10 seconds. So although it appears to IMPACT mouse clicks, mouse movements, and keyboard entries, it seems to be TRIGGERED by mouse clicks specifically.
Again, I cause this absolutely every time by spending enough time adding and moving splits in the editor. I'd love to not get it, just once, so I can edit my splits properly, but I cannot. So that may be the best way to duplicate this hopefully
I also reproduce it in the editor. I added splits 1 by 1 (with title & times) and it froze along the way (you can somehow regain control of the mouse for like 3-4 seconds then it freezes again for 5-10s). Second time it froze after just 4 splits added.
macOS 10.13.6 java 1.8.0_162
I'll have time soon to download the code and run it in debug to check for possible cause.
Thanks for all responses and hard work guys! Hopefully we will have a solution for this in the future!
First off Llanfair has been amazing for my stream and all my speedrunning endeavors. I wouldn't be where I am today without it. Sadly since I updated my Mac yesterday, Llanfair will suddenly make my computer run so slowly that I can't complete an action such as switching between windows without it taking 15 secs or so. I have tested to see if it was my streaming software or game capture in many different ways, but Llanfair seems to be causing it. I can still stream without it but its an integral part of my channel and always has been! Just wanted to make you're aware of this new issue that popped up. I am on a late 2012 iMac if that helps at all. Thank you SO MUCH! :)
