Subject of the issue

As instructed in the #202 post, I created this issue in order to start something about translating in french. I may be able to help.

AurelieBayre commented 5 years ago

I would be interested in helping too.

cedroid09 commented 5 years ago

Okay, I'm in too.

wooorm commented 5 years ago

Wow, awesome folks! Thanks for the interest! šŸŽ‰šŸŽƒ

As this issue is the first for a language, Iā€™m not entirely sure how to approach this. I played some ideas out in #202, what do yā€™all think about those?

cynferdd commented 5 years ago

Looking at the way the projects are made, I think your approach is good. I can take care of the profanities project, to start with.

deatheguard commented 5 years ago

I can help with French as well! And I really want to!

wooorm commented 5 years ago

@deatheguard Perfect! You can help review https://github.com/words/cuss/pull/15, or maybe start work on retext-equality? šŸ’Ŗ

wooorm commented 5 years ago

Soo, we landed French in cuss! Thanks @cynferdd, @AurelieBayre, @cedroid09, and @deatheguard for working on this! šŸŽ‰

The next step is to add something for French to retext-equality. Anyone able and interested to work on that?

OfficierAzarov commented 4 years ago

Hi! Do you still need help with french version? I would be happy to help.

wooorm commented 4 years ago

Yes, we do, and that would be lovely! We have a list of profanities, just like in English, but there arenā€™t any patterns, such as the English ones, which deal with insensitive stuff like condescending language, or gendered terms. Help with that is greatly appreciated. If youā€™re interested, I suggest starting small. Taking a couple of patterns from an existing English file and translating them.

Would you be interested in that? How I can I help you?

OfficierAzarov commented 4 years ago

@wooorm Great, I would love to help with this!

wooorm commented 4 years ago

Awesome. Some more information is in the Contributing section btw. Let me know if you run into troubles, Iā€™ll help you!

sebcreme commented 3 years ago

@wooorm To be sure to understand, you are suggesting to take en retext-equality et try to translate it ?

Thanks a lot for your work.

wooorm commented 3 years ago

Hi SĆ©bastien! That is correct, Iā€™m suggesting to take the English existing rules and translate them. Although: itā€™s important to note that every language language is different. Certain suggestions may be OK in English but would be incorrect (or maybe even harmful?) in French, and the other way around.

Most of the suggestions in the English ruleset come from somewhat ā€œrespectedā€ sources (e.g., news organizations, or lgbtq+ groups), and from user submissions. So Iā€™d also suggest looking into lists of ā€œrespectedā€ sources in French?

sebcreme commented 3 years ago

ok i will try to involve people that can help me to get those sources.
