Tools and systems for community building and user feedback #141

From my POV, the most important thing is opening up communication with our volunteer users in a way that we haven't done before at Lantern. We're getting signups from volunteers at https://network.lantern.io/, and we need to formalize some systems to interact with them. For example, we should be sending out semi-regular email blasts with prompts for engagement, and we should be trying to form a community -- probably with a user forum hosted on our website.

Basically, we want to establish a tight feedback loop with those volunteers, where it's really easy to talk to them and learn more about what's working, what's not working, and what features they want from us.

I'm certainly happy to do the work required -- e.g., I can write the newsletters, engage on forums, etc. But I would like to stand up these systems in ways that are unified across Lantern.

In other words, if we're going to start sending a newsletter, it shouldn't just be a "p2p web proxying" newsletter. Rather, I think it should be the newsletter which represents all of Lantern to the western world, and we should be leveraging it to solve all kinds of business problems, publishing interesting insights into censorship in different regions, adding calls-to-action to solicit donations, etc. This requires some buy-in and participation from a bunch of different departments.

Per our catchup call on 4/11/2023, I'll write up a half page plan and circulate it. To be continued...

This task is getting folded into https://github.com/getlantern/product/issues/3, so I'm gonna kill it.
