The remote link checker is very slow #3643

Environment

Python Version: 3.10.6

Nikola Version: 8.2.3

Operating System: Debian Linux (testing)

Description:

On my rusty old blog, the remote link checker is taking forever. It hung for several hours - clearly it needs some timeouts to bound the checks.
