Testing task for KDE Discover - eopkg packages

For flatpak testing see #716

We are looking for help from Solus users to install and exercise KDE Discover. This testing is open to all users, and can be done on the stable repository.

[!IMPORTANT] If you encounter a problem with Discover, please look for open issues on our issue tracker, and open a new issue if one does not already exist for the problem.

Test objective

Exercise Discover to ensure everything works as intended with eopkgs management, and facilitate technical discussions of potential issues. This is for software packaged by Solus aka eopkgs (as opposed to flatpaks which will be tested in another task).

Setting Up

sudo eopkg it discover

Testing List

A non-exhaustive list of things to test. Feel free to go beyond this. Explore! Feel free to report any bugs or unexpected behavior, even if it isn't on this list (see if there's an issue filed already, if not create a new one)

Did already a post in Solus forum: https://discuss.getsol.us/d/10793-sync-updates-for-week-30-2024/6

1) Currently installed software is listed correctly No, only 7 packages are listed

2) Updates work correctly No, stucks in "searching for updates"

3) Laptop no longer switches lockscreen and standby, since I have installed Discover. Blocked by Package Updater

Do I have to de-install Software Center? Do the two compete / block each other?

AlphaElwedritsch commented 4 months ago

After I de-installed Discover and rebooted, the warning message disapeared and lockscreen and standby works again

Update:

mkl@mkl-solus ~ $ sudo eopkg rm discover
mkl@mkl-solus ~ $ sudo eopkg it discover

surprising that it doesn't work the first time you install it. That you have to install it, uninstall it and then install it again

Solus Software Center lists lot more packages then Discover But it seems, that Discover will not list system packages. Only applications

Thanks for helping us test Discover. Please open a new bug report for the issues you encountered. Thanks.
