linking does not work on NAS for OS X #25

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Attempt to lock a file on a SMB connected NAS from a Mac OS X

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The lock cannot be acquired

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.9.1, Mac OS X against a Buffalo Terastation NAS

Please provide any additional information below.

Note that I attempted a hard link from sh and got "not supported" as an error.  
That implies that just checking for the presence of "ln" as a decision as to 
which methodology of locking is not sufficient.
