Error: Invalid seed length #31

I keep getting this error message on http://umbrel-dev.local after fresh umbrel-dev installation. After that the spinner spins indefinitely.

Steps to reproduce

  1. run umbrel-dev init
  2. run umbrel-dev boot
  3. go to http://umbrel-dev.local in your browser
  4. enter your name and password
  5. on note down your secret words screen click NOTE DOWN LATER

Expected result: the next screen shows up.

Actual result: Error: Invalid seed length message shows up and the next screen doesn't.

Are you running this on an Apple or Intel Mac?

Looks like a filesystem permission error causing issues with LND.

Are you able to provide me with the LND logs?

umbrel-dev run "docker-compose logs --tail 100 lnd"

The VirtualBox shared folder (which maps the Umbrel codebase on your Mac to the VM) seems to cause a lot of issues and often clobbers filesystem permissions. I have an experimental branch using SSH-FS instead to try to resolve this.

Experienced this issue today with a brand new install of v0.4.10 on debian 11

 Server Version: 20.10.12
 Storage Driver: overlay2
  Backing Filesystem: extfs
  Supports d_type: true
  Native Overlay Diff: true
  userxattr: false

I cannot see any reason for a permissions issue as far as the docker setup.

uid=1000(umbrel-user) gid=1000(umbrel-user) groups=1000(umbrel-user),24(cdrom),25(floppy),27(sudo),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),109(netdev),998(docker)

The directory where the files reside and docker-compose is executed out of are owned by this user.

My workaround was to downgrade to v0.4.9.

sudo scripts/update/update --repo getumbrel/umbrel#v0.4.9

got me provisioned fine on the previous version.

these look to be confirmed as permission issues related to previous custom Linux installs and older versions,

Solution looks to be we should have secured funds on any old machines and also can just update to the new umbrelOS!
