I'm not sure if I remember iit correctly, but earlier the 404 page was the same as the front page. Now, it's the default GitHub 404 page. In my opinon you should either mak ethe 404 page the same as the start page again or create a custom one. On GitHub pages, this just works by creating it as 404.html.
