Cecille Blake from the GGIM Secretariat (Statistics Division of DESA) kindly gave me a huge edit on the GGIM 10 report paragraphs. Her original edit is as below.

  1. Task group B is responsible for the preparation of scenario-based exercises on different hazards. The group is led by Japan with members from Albania, China, Japan, Sweden, Uzbekistan, UNESCAP, MapAction and GeoThings. Group members substantive work covers different areas such as remote sensing, service operations, and applications which contribute to its collective strength and ability to satisfactorily address its activities. In the execution of its work the group uses Microsoft Teams, has created its own website which is linked to its GITHUB site which stores the contribution from the group’s active members.
  2. For the reporting period the members of task group B were scheduled to deliver 10 presentations and two exercises at the UN-GGIM WG-Disasters Conference scheduled for February 2020 in Tokyo. The conference was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, however it is hoped that it will be rescheduled for some time in 2021. The group has been planning the staging of a joint simulated operation to determine actions to be taken during an actual crisis. The objective is to create communication channel among Member States and relevant organizations to share knowledge and expertise from each other and voluntarily help each other in the use of geospatial information to respond to disasters and/or humanitarian crisis situations. It is important to note that this groups work may be considered as a Community of Practice as its practices, processes and methodologies as regards to developing scenario based exercises are in line with the IGIF Strategic Pathway 8.6.10 which emphasises knowledge sharing, using existing platforms as the mechanism for communication and opportunities for capacity and education programs.

May I suggest the following counterproposal regarding these paragraphs? As I understand, she also wanted our paragraphs smaller "to make for smooth reading"

  1. The function of Task Group B is to design and prepare scenario-based exercise on different hazards. Task Group B has participants from different sectors and disciplines from Albania, China, Japan, Sweden, Uzbekistan, UNESCAP, MapAction and GeoThings.
  2. After information sharing and discussions, Task Group B has agreed to consider itself as a Community of Practice as in the IGIF Strategic Pathway 8.6.10.

I added some text from IGIF SP 8 to the paragraph 13.

  1. After information sharing and discussions, Task Group B has agreed to consider itself as a Community of Practice as in the IGIF Strategic Pathway 8.6.10 which shares a concern, set of problems, or passion about a topic and deepens their knowledge and expertise by interacting on an ongoing basis.
