Localization / Language Setting for Non-English #78

Open pcu71 opened 4 years ago

pcu71 commented 4 years ago

Problem:

During the install process I chose "German" as language, and the MATE menues appear in that language. But Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice and others were still in Englih. I had to change that by hand. Sometimes by instlling separate langauge packages. For native English speakers this problem will never show up, but for others this issue could be a make or break thing.

Possible Solution:

I suggest setting the language of the packages installed by default by GhostBSD to the same language chosen by the user for his system. For example: If system language is "German", then istall also the German language pack for LibreOffice and other software (if available).

@ericbsd You can assign the task to me, if you like

In my opinion, this is a problem of all free desktop environments. indeed, on windows, macos, android you are asked for the language once and this one is valid for everything but it is difficult to get this simply with our free desktop environment.

In short and for me, the easiest way is to proceed in 2 steps:

  1. To be able to switch the keyboard settings easily and quickly without the need to go through the English menus. A fork of gkb-new seems to me the simplest and closest to the expected result.
  2. To be able to translate the whole system and fix the bug report of @pcu71, creating meta-ports seems to me the easiest because this would allow to install this packages at the end of the installation of GhostBSD.
