Additional Information
This is a very well known feature. A huge number of websites allow you to sign in with google. Recently google has started advertising the fact aggressively, prompting users to sign in with popups. These popups are very annoying, covering content, often making it more difficult to sign in to the website when you have an account with that website. Further, I think it's also a way for Google to track what websites users a visiting, much like the Facebook like button.
