No version after r171 works on my server

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Using WordPress 3.3.1
2. Using PHP 5.2.11 on CentOS6

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output: Images displayed and resized
Instead: No images at all, only alt tags (or title tags?)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The last version of timthumb.php that functions on this setup (WP 3.3.1, PHP 
5.2.11 on CentOS6) that works is r171. All versions from r172 up to and 
including r202 do not display any images.

Without any other changes, switching from a later version of timthumb.php to 
r171 or earlier fixes the problem.

Please provide any additional information below.

Whatever the incompatibility is, it looks like it was introduced in r172 and 
has been present ever since.

P.S. — I tried the fix mentioned in ticket #321 and it didn't solve the 
problem.

Unfortunately I can confirm that the latest version (2.8.10) still does not 
work. r171 works fine. If you would like, I could privately e-mail you a 
phpinfo file or whatever other info about my server you might find helpful.
