They don't merge if they are aggro'd, no. I designed it that way. The merging mechanic is something that happens when they are idle. It's less priority than moving toward the targetted entity, but more priority than random wandering. I could consider changing that but at the moment the way the merging is designed, it would mean the slimes would randomly stop attacking you if there's another slime of the same size nearby, and I don't think that would be a good experience. Maybe I could make it so the merging can happen without the "walk toward another slime" task. I will look into it but no promises, and no time frame.
