Hi,
Could you tell me which versions of HeeksCAD and HeeksCNC packages you have:
(ie. you can use "apt-cache show heekscnc/heekscad" to see installed version.
For example, mine is 1.0.0+svn201407090032~ubuntu14.04.1).

I just tried with latest heekscnc/heekscad packages under Ubuntu 14.04 64bits
and it does work without any troubles.
Please attempt to update :)

Hum strange.. same setup as me, same packages, different behaviour...
I will re-install a 14.04 64 bits VM to try... maybe I made something relevant
on current VM...

Could it be possible that this is linked to German setup of Ubuntu / heeks?

I dont think so... but you could try using this :
LANG=C heekscad
2014-07-14 22:03 GMT+02:00 <heekscnc@googlecode.com>:

it was worth a try, but unfortunatelly no effect on the error.
Could it make sense to remove several packages from "depends" and install again?

You could try this:
sudo aptitude purge heekscad heekscad-dev heekscnc libarea0 libarea-dev
python-area libheekstinyxml0 libheekstinyxml-dev python-ocl
If you want to purge some depends too:
sudo aptitude purge libwxbase2.8-0 libwxbase2.8-dev libwxbase3.0-0
libwxbase3.0-dev libwxgtk2.8-0 libwxgtk2.8-dev
Next, you can install it again:
sudo aptitude install heekscnc
If you want more translated app (ie. install wxWidgets standard catalog):
sudo aptitude install wx2.8-i18n
Note: you can use use apt-get if you prefer

Did you tried to compile it yourself using these instructions:
https://code.google.com/p/heekscnc/wiki/DebianPackagesBuild
If you try, it may help me to debug your trouble with the hope a problem will
be raised at compile-time...
