Follow up from discussion at https://discourse.julialang.org/t/slow-cubature/116120/20. Opening as draft because I'd like to do a couple of changes:

add example to the documentation, besides the test
consider whether removing the ngiven argument and infer it automatically from the length of xgiven (it's necessary in C/Fortran, but we can do better). This is a potentially breaking change though.
