Closed mtchem closed 8 years ago

mtchem commented 9 years ago

There are no instructions for people with windows to both install ruby on rails and how to use the git hub clone.

Roenok commented 9 years ago

Going to try a Windows install tonight, so I'll see about some docs as well.

mtchem commented 9 years ago

I've made some instructions for beginners, but there is still a problem with the GDI GEM install bundle. page1 page2

Roenok commented 9 years ago

@mtchem Thanks, those will help a lot. Can you send the docs to sylvia@girldevelopit.com so I can test and edit? You are awesome.

@Roenok "but there is still a problem with the GDI GEM install bundle. " can you elaborate? I was hitting a Gemfile issue on my end, but was chalking it up to my clunky work setup haha...

Roenok commented 9 years ago

@kstack7 No idea! I'll find out tonight. I suspect it is the part highlighted in red.

kstack7 commented 9 years ago

Taking Kristi's lead in Slack by downloading Vagrant to try out the Windows route.

Roenok commented 9 years ago

General note: Native Windows install currently appears to be impossible due to Unix-only gems. See #174 for more. Windows users may be able to use a virtual machine with Linux.

juliaelman commented 9 years ago

@Roenok were you able to check out these docs and test? Wanting to see if we can add platform specific instructions + Windows would be awesome sauce.

Roenok commented 9 years ago

@juliaelman Windows install is currently impossible, pending resolution of https://github.com/girldevelopit/gdi-new-site/issues/174

kstack7 commented 9 years ago

Pending latest build changes to support Windows. Please checkout http://girl-develop-it-staging.herokuapp.com/ and #371 for details & keep an eye out for bugs!

We can close this one, as Windows users can use Vagrant
