The XML files only go back 1 year. So the tool is useless for exploring historic data. But creating XML files back to 1989 each time might result in a very long time producing the XML files, and a very long latency loading and filtering them in VOLC2. So some other solution would be nice long-term, perhaps subsetting the database directly and not using XML files.
