Any comment about upcoming Git Rev News edition 24 #221

Closed chriscool closed 7 years ago

A currently mostly empty draft is there:

https://github.com/git/git.github.io/blob/master/rev_news/drafts/edition-24.md

Feel free to comment in this issue, or to use the edit button (that looks like a pen) to edit and create a pull request with the changes you would like.

Thanks!

@chriscool and others: I supplied a first version of a contributor summit summary (perhaps much too detailed, and containing some trash). Please edit/refine/delete :-).

Thanks @mjaix! I think it should go into "Discussions" -> "General" at the top of the page. "Other News" and below is for shorter news.

Otherwise I will work on it this week end. Also don't worry about the names. I have them all, so I will be able to complete that part.

By the way I don't remember people talking about Open Source Hackathons in London and New York in April/May. Do you know who talked about that or are there links somewhere about that? Was it Charles Bailey (https://www.linkedin.com/in/hashpling)?

Yes, it was Charles. I've been in contact with him and other organizers at Bloomberg. I need to send a message to the list seeing who might be interested in participating.

That would be great! Thanks in advance!

@chriscool @mjaix My links are in. Thanks for the great section on Git Merge, @jnareb!

WIP in #230 pull request

Could we delay sending Git Rev News edition 24 a bit? A have a few larger items in the back-queue, but I'll have time for it in the evening CEST (in a 6h or so).

chriscool commented 7 years ago

@jnareb ok to delay it until this evening.

jnareb commented 7 years ago

I'm working on doing Git Merge 2017 report, based on blogs and my own watching streamed contents of some of lectures. Currently at 3rd session, about GVFS.

jnareb commented 7 years ago

Finished doing Git Merge 2017 report, added a few more links, did a spellcheck. Merged #230

I don't think I have now the strength for browsing though threads marked in my newsreader to select them for "Reviews" and "Support" sections. Thus I say it is ready to be sent; please check the formatting just in case.

🛌 😴

@jnareb Great, thanks! I made a lot of changes in master to hopefully fix some small problems. We can probably still improve things a bit even after the edition is announced on the mailing list, so everyone should feel free to take another look.

jnareb commented 7 years ago

@chriscool actually trailing double space after session titles was there deliberately; this is <br> in Markdown, and I wanted author names below title, like in http://git-merge.com/#schedule. This was removed in 153effaa2 and 744f3e241c

But this is a matter of style (especially with quotes around session titles), so it can be left either way.

Thank you a lot for those corrections. 👍

Ok I will revert https://github.com/git/git.github.io/commit/153effaa2ef0d9eb5cc1672ec263bdeec0f4a762 then.

jnareb commented 7 years ago

Alternate solution would be to add "by " before author of session.

chriscool commented 7 years ago

I will let you chose and do what you prefer, then.

jnareb commented 7 years ago

It was easier to revert 153effa, which was done in 0128608

chriscool commented 7 years ago

Great, sorry about my mistake and thanks for fixing it!
