owocki commented 6 years ago

what

An important part of the Ethereum Ecosystem

ETHAvatar - a gravatar-like app, but instead of attaching images to emails, it attaches avatars to ETHereum addresses.

what, technically

a webapp that will attach your ETHavatar to your web3.eth.coinbase in a smart contract

we've already got a working app over at https://github.com/gitcoinco/skunkworks/issues/58#issuecomment-371349477

This issue now has a funding of 0.25 ETH (183.28 USD @ $733.13/ETH) attached to it.

cadomac commented 6 years ago

What is the deliverable for this? Do you want a frontend prototype or just a design sketch? I assume the former based on your request for responsiveness.

gitcoinbot commented 6 years ago

Work has been started on the 0.25 ETH (128.48 USD @ $513.94/ETH) funding by:

  1. @Graal46

Please work together and coordinate delivery of the issue scope. Gitcoin doesn't know enough about everyones skillsets / free time to say who should work on what, but we trust that the community is smart and well-intentioned enough to work together. As a general rule; if you start work first, youll be at the top of the above list ^^, and should have 'dibs' as long as you follow through.

On the above list? Please leave a comment to let the funder (@owocki) and the other parties involved what you're working, with respect to this issue and your plans to resolve it. If you don't leave a comment, the funder may expire your submission at their discretion.

designs we can put on the site, in image / psd / sketch format pls.

Are Illustrator files okay, or do you prefer artboards to be exported?

owocki commented 6 years ago

illustrator files are fine with me! though its a nice touch to post a screenshot on github so that each individual who wants to comment doesnt have to have illustrator to comment on the creative

vs77bb commented 6 years ago

@cmac2454 Are you trying this one? I know @zoek1 is listed first, but it seems you've been more active here so it's yours if you want it!

cadomac commented 6 years ago

@vs77bb I'm interested! Couple of quick questions for you and/or @owocki :

code sample -- post an ETHavatar for an address code sample -- get an ETHavatar for an address

What exactly are you looking for as a deliverable for the code requests?

And should I be using Gitcoin's branding for this page or should it have its own?

owocki commented 6 years ago

it can have its own branding

What exactly are you looking for as a deliverable for the code requests?

there's an code sample already in the readme of the app: https://github.com/gitcoinco/ethavatar#to-integrate-into-your-app

i think it'd be great to get this down into a 1 or 2 line integration.. but maybe that is more scope than is plasuible for this ticket. eventually, we'll want to have JS, python integrations with ETHAvatar of an interface that looks as nice and simple as this:

img_url, width, height, title = ethavatar.get_avatar(eth_address)
cadomac commented 6 years ago

Here's what the ethavatar design looks like so far

owocki commented 6 years ago

seems like it's on the way to being functional (at least the upload / get part).

cadomac commented 6 years ago

@owocki

also would love to see an above the fold section that talks about the "why i care" / "what it is" of the project

Can you elaborate on this or rephrase it? What do you mean by "above the fold" section?

would love to see the code sample section filled out.

Is pseudocode okay for the design?

it'd be cool to have a footer that talked about gitcoin and maybe displayed a "made with bounties" sticker

Is there a made with bounties sticker already in gitcoinco/creative?

owocki commented 6 years ago

when a first time user comes to the site, they are immediately going to want to know what the project is and why they should care. therefore, instead of just presenting the functionality of the app, we should show some compelling value statement as context, above the fold, before the functionality.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Above_the_fold#In_web_design

Is pseudocode okay for the design?

yes

Hi everyone, I’d love to help out if I can. My name is luca, Senior UX designer / frontend.

I have been pondering a few days about this, and here is what I came out with. Let me know your thoughts and how I can help.

FEEDBACK ON THE DESIGN: It’s good work but I think it should present more as a website than an app. Support, About us and help section for developers.

I personally don’t see the need for the two separate area for upload and to show the avatar they can coexist in the same area. I imagine a simple “change avatar” button under the current avatar.

The lookup is a great idea but it should be a separate url or “view” I think, because is different user workflow.

EXCHANGE / DAPPS ADOPTION I don’t understand in full how it will works. Will external DAPPS just call the smart contract or they will need our UI ? Or use API ?

CUSTOMERS ADOPTION

Uploading an avatar could potentially be their first interaction with the ethereum network if you exclude the creation of the address and we need to make everything smoother for them.

I am not sure about the etiquette (I hope I am not breaking any) since the project already started and you may not need my help at all, but I’d love to give it a try and make a UX workflow or even a visual proposal if everyone is ok with it.

cadomac commented 6 years ago

Is this getting closer to what you were thinking, @owocki ?

owocki commented 6 years ago

Is this getting closer to what you were thinking, @owocki ?

yes, definitely :)

owocki commented 6 years ago

@lucaguglielmi ill pass around your feedback internally (along with the content of your email) and will get back to you

Commenting to prevent gitcoinbot from removing me

cadomac commented 6 years ago

Commenting again, is there any word on feedback regarding @lucaguglielmi ideas, @owocki ?

owocki commented 6 years ago

oh yes -- there is an email thread with @lucaguglielmi going over some of the finer points of their design. are you still iterating on your design? would you like me to add you to the convo about luca's work?

cadomac commented 6 years ago

I would like to be added to the thread if possible, I figure we can all bounce ideas off of each other.

owocki commented 6 years ago
