"Show checkbox tools list" does not work consistently

Several times each day Gmail Toolbar appearance to default rather than 
following Minimalist options for "Show checkbox tools list". 

Specifically, Gmail > Toolbar > Left > "Show checkbox tools list" stops showing 
the tools list; even though that option remains selected.

The list is immediately displayed again when any change in options is made and 
Save Changes is clicked.

Do you have to change a option for it to come back or will it come back by 
refreshing a couple times?

Edge case. Most likely a Chrome issue that cannot be fixed on my end.
