Add hide/toggle for left sidebar

The reason it hasn't been included yet is that the MinGmail implementation was 
messy and resource intensive. I'd like to write this one from scratch to be a 
little more elegant.

Any idea when this vital (for me) enhancement will be available? If not 
hide/unhide, then at least the ability to decrease the wasted space. PLEASE! :)

And would it be possible to completely hide the right sidebar? I don't need a 
fancy toggle button, I don't care about chatting. I've got all those features 
hidden away but now there's just empty space there. Since I'm mostly using a 
netbook it would be awesome if there was more space for messages.

In the mean time, is there a hack that I can do to hide left sidebar. I'm okay 
if it is resource intensive.
