do not boot: no screens found: no devices detected #131

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Installing XPud on harddisk on Windows 7 on a Laptop
2. Select boot Xpud, boot Xpud with webbrowser and applications
3. The message is shown in the boot-display of Xpud.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I think, this is the point where Xpud-boot-progress would be finished^^
I see an Error with code "(EE) no devices detected", a summary "Fatal
Error: no screens found" an a try to write a log-datei which seems to be
canceled as Xpud can not found some things like a server...

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

I am using the current version from the site, 0.9.2
I'm using it on a 32B Windows 7 Professional Version that is updated to
current date. I'm using a Laptop with Intel Core Duo CPU

What has gone wrong? how to help it?

The xPUD project is amazing! The following machines fail to initialize the
display properly for whatever reason:
  * Acer Aspire 7738g
  * Sony VAIO VPCF115FM
  * Acer Revo 3610
  * Motherboard with Intel EP45 chipset and a Radeon HD 5850 graphics card

Boot hangs with no UI and a "sh-4.0#" prompt. Tried the following boot options
but none of them have corrected this issue:
  * vga=normal
  * nofb
  * vga=771
  * nomodeset
  * xforcevesa
  * screen=800x600x16

Is there a way to guarantee that the safe "vesa" driver is used, or otherwise
force X to show a basic video mode, even if it is low resolution? What kernel
boot option should be used to ensure that xPUD boots into a GUI, even if it is
not the best driver? (Screen resolution doesn't matter when you get a black
screen anyway!)
