So for context, this relevant as https://www.github.com/gitpod-io/cla redirects to https://github.com/gitpod-io/cla which is currently a private repository.

We're working on an improved CLA process which stores CLAs in that repository. It's not rolled out yet so the repository is private. We have an internal issue tracking it here.

tnir commented 2 years ago

Who has signed that CLA? @mads-hartmann

The agreement I just got includes:

You confirm that [...] you have followed the instructions in http://www.gitpod.io/cla, in You do not own the Copyright in the entire work of authorship Submitted.

If the contributors (before signing CLA) have no access to https://github.com/gitpod-io/cla, no code contributors should have signed it 😁

@meysholdt Thanks for sending the CLA draft to me on 2022-03-30. I asked you to confirm how I can get to the information the CLA points out in the reply to it. Please check that out in your mail inbox 🙏 ❤️

@mads-hartmann https://github.com/gitpod-io/ops/issues/130 looks like 404 for us... 😢

We're working on an improved CLA process which stores CLAs in that repository. [...]

So how many years will you need to improve process on CLA? 🤔

@meysholdt Friendly reminder 😁 https://github.com/gitpod-io/gitpod/issues/7864#issuecomment-1088323387

Hi @tnir!

thank you for bringing up the question and apologies for the late response. The sentence you quoted actually reads slightly different (note the "if"):

You confirm that [...] You have followed the instructions in http://www.gitpod.io/cla, if You do not own the Copyright in the entire work of authorship Submitted.

I didn't look at your contribution, but I assume you do own the copyright of the entire work of authorship you submitted. If that is true, the instructions from http://www.gitpod.io/cla do not apply.

As Mads said, http://www.gitpod.io/cla is not yet public because:

We're working on an improved CLA process which stores CLAs in that repository. It's not rolled out yet so the repository is private. We have an internal issue tracking it https://github.com/gitpod-io/ops/issues/130.

With that being said, what we intend to publish at http://www.gitpod.io/cla is the CLA that I send you for signature. We don't have a process yet for contributing work of which you (the contributor) do not own the copyright. In such cases, we'd need to talk via email.

I hope this helps. If questions remain, feel free to reach out to me via my email.

@meysholdt Thanks. I do not think CLA is ephemeral while a single PR is. If the author (or I) will not submit what the author do not have the copyright for work, they do not have to include these the in CLA they are signing, which will be effective for a while.

@meysholdt Updates?

meysholdt commented 2 years ago

I'm planning to pick this up again this week.

@meysholdt According to your comment in https://github.com/gitpod-io/gitpod/pull/10199#issuecomment-1195274701, didn't you do anything on this problem? 🤔
