Formatting of markdown in Gists #508

As READMEs are displayed with markdown formatting on the first tab of the repository page, it would be great if markdown files were also formatted in Gists.

For example:

Wouldn't that end up with conflicts, cause don't gists not need a file extension?

To my knowledge they're context free plain text files.

I think Gists can have file extensions - they are not required however.
