Use xvfb for testing #28

This was an old branch for experimenting with using xvfb for headless testing of software that has a GUI. The updates are small but worthwhile to merge (if the tests still pass).

This doesn't change any code some I'm going to merge. We may need to switch testing away from Travis CI soon because of these changes.
