Spell Check Not working with Appimages on several distros #2350

Open ttffm opened 1 year ago

ttffm commented 1 year ago

Version, Operative system

Appimage spell does not work on: Debian Bookworm, Sparky Linux Bullseye, Devuan Chimera, Arch Linux, Xubuntu 20.01 Appimages spell does work on: Linux Lite

Describe the bug

The appimage seems to enable spell check on one distro I have tried (Linux Lite) but not the others. The one's where it does not enable are greyed out with no ability to check to enable or select languages. Spell check works okay on all versions installed to hard drive from a package manager but is not working with portable appimages. I have tested this with the latest and previous appimages. I suspect the issue lies with whatever libraries come with the OS. I just don't know what that is. I have installed some additional spelling libraries, with no success either.

To Reproduce If applicable, attach a non-personal document where the issue can be reproduced systematically.

I tested this on a laptop with live CDs, all running XFCE. I don't know if the problem will be the same on other laptops

I have been using Ubuntu 18.04 to generate the AppImage to ensure that it runs on older distributions but probably it's about time I start to use 20.04. I'll see if that helps. It's tricky because AppImages generated on 20.04 won't run at all on 18.04.
