Which version of MacOs? Is it the homebrew package?

r0bag commented 1 year ago

Yep, it is it the homebrew package.

giuspen commented 1 year ago

@r0bag I will try on my virtual machine and let you know. Can you report you Mac Operative System version?

r0bag commented 1 year ago

macOS 13.3.1 (22E261) Sorry, I am sending you the crashreport.. cherry_crash.txt

giuspen commented 1 year ago

Thanks for the crash log @r0bag Bear with me as I'm trying to restore my virtual machine with Monterey, hopefully I'll be able to reproduce there, otherwise I'll try and set up a new one with Ventura

giuspen commented 1 year ago

I was able to set up the old virtual machine, which is a Big Sur / 11, and I can run File->Preferences ->Preferences and open the Preferences dialog without crash. I will try in the next days Ventura but in the meantime can you try to export your Preferences, then open the Preferences directory, then close cherrytree, then rename config.cfg to for example _config.cfg then start cherrytree and see if it crashes again. I'm trying to understand if it's a particular setting that is crashing cherrytree and in that case please send me your exported or copied config cfg

r0bag commented 1 year ago

it is not possible to export the preferences, it crashes immediately also

giuspen commented 1 year ago

You can copy from ~/.config/cherrytree/config.cfg

r0bag commented 1 year ago

tried the renaming, it also crashed

giuspen commented 1 year ago

Ok I'll try and set up Ventura

giuspen commented 1 year ago

I have spent a lot of hours trying to set up a test virtual machine of Ventura and Sonoma following multiple guides but the result has always been an endless reboot for kernel panic. I'm giving up for now, I will try to get hold of Apple HW, I'll investigate the costs. In the meantime I advise you to have a look at https://gitlab.com/dehesselle/cherrytree_macos/-/releases and also report if the crash happens there as well

Can you attach your ~/.config/cherrytree/config.cfg and/or try to generate a crash backtrace for me as described on https://github.com/giuspen/cherrytree/blob/master/BUILDING.md#to-generate-a-backtrace-for-a-crash-bug-report
