A Glasklart-style weather app theme!

http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/IMG_3575-1.png http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/IMG_3581.png

I need help/input! As you can probably see, I have a small problem; I do not know how to change the font colour. I chose Sydney because they have daytime right now (its night time where I live right now), and the blue font stood out more then the purple (colour used at night).

Thoughts on keeping original style weather images, or should Glasklart style versions be created (taken from the weather icon project?).

@MagnaMike : Your resources are here: http://glasklarthd.dreamnet.at/ajaxplorer/ (as written above, look in /Library/Themes/Glasklart Weather.theme/Bundles/com.apple.weather). I am not completly happy with the bigger weather icons, there is much more space to use - maybe i will overwork them in the next days. I also made some small improvements to the mini-icons. @sinfool : I absolutley like your gk weather icons, but a time ago we had some discussion about gk icons generally and we came to the conclusion, that whenever it is possible only one layer should be used in a glasklart icon.

sinfool commented 11 years ago

@dreamnet : No problem. I also agree with the single layer Glasklart style as the general rule but since I used/based my system wide Glasklart weather version from Max Rudberg's original Glasklart Weathericon theme, this was just the look I was used to.

I'm going to put these new icons in the weathericon theme for my status bar so I can get used to this new look. I'm still trying to get used to the new speckled backgrounds etc. lol. I'm sure they'll grow on me. ;)

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@dreamnet, the partly combo clouds looks great, but not quite right when paired with the moon. See here: http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/A4115483-F408-49B5-832E-23FB6D62D699-2617-0000012056A9D6B8_zpsd206c09e.jpg The partly combo cloud image is 'overlayed' on top of the moon image to show a partly cloudy night weather condition. The app does it like this because there are 24 different pictures of the moon (because the moon image shows the waxes and wanes of the moon) so it's easier to overlay clouds instead of creating 24 partly cloud images, if you follow me. Anyway, to my point, so for the clouds look right when paired with the moon, can you apply glasklart style to this image (ignore the red bands, I need those for cropping later) and then delete the moon, that way the clouds will have the proper appearance. http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/partlycomboclouds2xTemplate_zps51df772b.png

Also, here is the Glasklart Stock Widget in action (thanks @dreamnet!): Stock As you can see, I have gone ahead and 'removed' the y! buttons, and I think it looks much better. DOWLOAD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rsecbofhttqyrl9/Glasklart%20Stock%20Widget.zip

@dreamnet I also wanted to mention, if you are going to tinker with the icons, make sure you follow the image sizes that are in the weather theme I uploaded a couple posts ago, anything bigger then the dimensions that each image has and then alignment starts to become a problem. For some icons its manageable, but I think for some, if not most it's hard to overcome. As you'll find out by looking in the theme I uploaded, there's a wide range in size. Also, the mini icons are actually 80x72 not 72x72.

Also, I think I will get those last notification centre images uploaded tomorrow hopefully... Haven't worked on them yet if though I meant to. I've been busy.

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike Sorry for the delay, I've been really busy the last few days. Everything looks fantastic and I agree the y! button needed to go.

The stock widget is also looking very nice. Thanks for all the work on this. It's going to make a fantastic addition to the theme. :)

sinfool commented 11 years ago

@jfelchner : To each their own...I actually like the smaller re-postioned "Y". Photobucket

@MagnaMike : Yeah, what you're discussing with @dreamnet, that is what I was trying to explain to you earlier when I said weather conditions that overlap in the weather app don't always look right...FYI, I also noticed you used a different haze icon than my original and since its one of the overlaping conditions it doesn't look right either. Photobucket

jimmyt650 commented 11 years ago

It looks amazing! i have been away on holidays so i am sorry i havent helped on this project!

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@sinfool Yea, I was aware of the issue with the haze condition. The broken, overlapping one was just a place holder really. I had been thinking of a fix and I made one but I haven't been able to test it since I created it (I haven't had a current weather condition that is haze yet). This is what I came up with (sun would be in the middle): haze Once I have a screen shot of it in use then I can make a template for glasklart style to be properly applied. Until then, I can't do anything.

@dreamnet Here's the last round of icons (for the current weather condition icons in notification centre). Was time consuming going through all the icons sizing them to match with the default images... For the partlycomboclouds@2x, it is the same idea as the other one (use the moon to make the glasklart style match on the clouds and then delete the moon). The haze icon in notification centre is a single icon, no overlaying images so just treat it normally. https://www.dropbox.com/s/l27f8v34r9bi3v3/Notification%20Weather%20Icons.zip

@jimmyt650 Thanks! @dreamnet has been a big help with the graphic work! and @sinfool provided a starting point with his old theme!

Almost forgot! I want to try something a little different. @dreamnet can you make this look like a glasklart icon baseplate? notification base

Thanks again

sinfool commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike It's looking nice! I'm really liking it. The original hodge podge theme I put together/created took me quite a few hours so I'm sure this took some patience. :)

Also, I'm not sure how many, if any other conditions also overlap... maybe hail or some others but not really sure. I remember trying to test all the conditions using various locations all over the world . LOL.

Great job.

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike you and @dreamnet are killing it. Really taking shape.

@jimmyt650 no worries, I have a plan to skin the Siri button coming up

dreamnet commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike : You know where to look at... (see above) The "gk baseplate" is difficult, because the image has only 18px width, so i can't make a good edge radius - here is the best i can do: ![gk background](http://glasklarthd.dreamnet.at/orig_files/iPhone4/Library/Themes/Glasklart Weather.theme/source/mike/glasbg.png)

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@dreamnet Thanks again!

Here's what I wanted to try... I'm not sure if I like it or not. http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/0EC59B68-431B-447A-B98F-BB8D84B70EF6-5599-000001FA97174BC5_zpsb9ece0a5.jpg

I'm not happy with the weather theme, I'm having a hard time centring some of the icons for the current weather conditions in notification centre and the app itself. I'm not certain but I think the centre of the images themselves might not match the centre of the screen on the device.

Here's a zip of the weather theme as it stands now (icon alignment needs work and haze icon for the weather app still un-complete because I haven't found a location with a haze weather condition recently) and the stock widget theme, both with the icon base plate style widget backgrounds. If you want the weather theme without the base plate go into 'Bundles' -> 'com.apple.weathernotifications.bundle' and delete 'weeapp_bg@2x'

Anyone know how to change the font colours?

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Whoops, I now know why I couldn't get haze to show up...I set it up wrong... Whipped this up really quick, @dreamnet you're up! http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/haze2xtemplate_zps80e5b1ae.png

Ignore the box around the icon, I got a bit over zealous with my crop markers.

dreamnet commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike : It's up (folder: mike).

sinfool commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike This is what I was saying/dealt with myself as far as centering position and also the overlap conditions. That is also why I stated earlier that I had doubts about your original plan (of using one image scaled down) actually working.

I remember that it didnt seem to make sense how the image was displayed compared to the size of the png and the position of the png's image. That is part of the reason I gave up tweaking it anymore nor updating it to true HD resolution. I give you a lot of credit for taking the time to continue it. I spent a long time messing around with it before I got fed up. LOL

IMO...I like the baseplate but I would only include the baseplate as a weather addon of the theme instead as part of the official weather version. I can see me using it sometimes.

Great Job!

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Thanks @dreamnet! :grinning:

And thanks for the compliments @sinfool

Does anyone (hopefully you @sinfool have a trick I don't know about because you have experience) know a good way to resolve the alignment issue that won't take hours (time I don't really have right now for a bit) and require me to have screenshots of every weather condition in action in the app and in notification centre (a challenge in itself!)?

Also, I have since removed the glasklart base plate on the notification centre widgets on my device, I just didn't like them all that much and I just kept thinking about the original background whenever I opened notification centre...

sinfool commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike Sorry for the delay...I've been using the weather theme and haven't really noticed any major sizing/repositioning issues. I havent really experiecnced or looked for any abnormal weather conditions either though. Actually I thought they all looked quite nice. I will make a screenshot when I do find a funky condition.

Do you know which/any specific conditions that aren't rendering correctly? Which ones were you referencing that you weren't happy with?

I will try to take a look at the theme files later this evening when I upload my others. I'm watching football today. :)

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Man I have been busyyyy, and still will be for a little while yet. Hope to get this finished soon. I don't have time to do anything right now, I just thought I'd post a small message...

@sinfool It's not the sizing of icons, it's the horizontal alignment of the icons (some are not centered), some are more noticeable then others. Within the weather app, I'm pretty sure the sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy are the worst. All of the conditions should be checked and fixed, but I'm not sure how to do this effectively (other then taking screenshots for each condition and checking on the computer). The snow&rain weather icon should be moved up slightly. The notification centre icons need to be checked and fixed as well. Also, I'm not sure about iOS 5.0(.1) (what i'm on) vs. iOS 5.1(.1), maybe the icons are handled differently? Also, does anyone know if iOS 6 jailbreak is getting close and/or if the weather app was tweaked for iOS 6 (so maybe we should just wait if the jailbreak is close if things are going to be different?). I want to re-do the glasklart style on the 'partly cloudy' clouds as well and maybe the haze condition too, not 100% on them anymore...

If anyone knows how/or figures out how to change the font colours for the temperatures, I would be extremely happy.

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

Ok all, I'm pushing out a beta of this in the next Glasklart release.

I should have it pushed to Cydia in a few minutes.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@jfelchner I realized after installing the Glasklart update, that the weather theme needed an update zip... This is the theme as it stands now: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hpow907ftoo3gv6/Glasklart%20Weather.zip

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike, I'll get it out in the next release. Thanks.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

FYI, If you are experiencing problems with the weather app (immediate crash upon opening), it is not because of the theme, it is a quirk with evasi0n that is getting fixed, and will be pushed out to cydia soon.

Personally, I have this problem and cannot work on the theme until the fix is released.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

There is an update on Cydia called 'UIKit Tools', and it fixed the problem with the weather crash. I will probably start updating tomorrow.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@dreamnet Can I get your help again? I want these to be redone: http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/haze2xtemplate_zpse8c99ba9.png Just apply glasklart style. Thanks.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Oh @dreamnet, actually I need this: I need you to make the space between the red and black cloud like you did on the other icons. Thanks http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/partlycomboclouds2xTemplate_zps649c6625.png

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@vinstic Thanks! Still need that other one too @dreamnet (or @vinstic if you're going to take a crack at it)

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

I just have to do some testing to do, and just a few small tweaks, but the hard work is done. I re-designed the background so it would be very similar to the default look, but use the glasklart background (this was the hard part, and is more complicated then it sounds ). Also had to do some icon renaming and sort out some changed locations for icons. After many re-springs, here are some sneak peak screenshots:

http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/IMG_0026_zps443ae548.png http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/IMG_0029_zpsf221978c.png http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/IMG_0027_zps58c6feb1.png http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/IMG_0028_zpsbc9f4686.png

sinfool commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike It would be easier if I had the larger png of those two overlapping clouds but here is an attempt anyways. http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n484/ebaystuff4ya/GK%20HD%20Icons/test_zps22bb8acc.png

Sorry, it doesn't look too good. Better wait for the master....@dreamnet. ;)

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@sinfool Hold on - I can give you a much larger version.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@sinfool Nevermind - this should work. clouds http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/partlyTemplate_zps001ddb1d.png

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Ok - I've made a couple last changes and once I get that last image with glasklart style applied (above), I'll post a link to the download. :+1:

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike I can't wait!

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike sorry you had to basically redo two themes. :frowning:

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Hmm, sadly no. I'm not sure if this is what you did but don't split up the different parts by applying glasklart style separately (apply it to everything at once as a group). The colour doesn't look right either - is that because I gave you a image that didn't have one solid colour on the clouds? On Feb 8, 2013 2:41 AM, "Anton Holgersson" notifications@github.com wrote:

@MagnaMike https://github.com/MagnaMike I just added the layer style to you image. It ended up like this. Is that how you want it? http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/202/63820733.png

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike @vinstic, also don't forget that the canvas area of the image needs to be larger due to the fact that you're adding a shadow/stroke to the outside of the image. See how the top and bottom of the moon looks "cut off"?

Either the moon needs to be a bit smaller or the image area needs to be bigger.

dreamnet commented 11 years ago

@sinfool Sorry i've been very busy the last days... still need some helping hand?

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@dreamnet Do you have the file for the this image, except without glasklart style?(http://glasklarthd.dreamnet.at/ajaxplorer/ 'Library/Themes/Glasklart Weather.theme/source/mike/partlycombocloud@2x.png')

@jfelchner @vinstic Don't worry - the moon is just a place holder, it doesn't matter if the shadow gets cut off. It is really important the the moon is there when Glasklart style is applied however, I'll try to explain it as simply and quickly as possible. Basically there are 24 images for the moon (shows the waxing and waning process in the unthemed app). Then if it is a cloudy night an image of clouds is overlayed on top of the moon (whichever one of the 24 different ones). In the Glasklart theme, all 24 images of the moon are copies of each other. That image i need with Glasklart style is what it looks like when the moon is overlayed with the clouds. What i'm going to do is remove the moon to just get the clouds for the image that is overlayed when it is cloudy. You may ask, then why is the moon on the canvas then. If it is not there - the clouds won't look right when they are overlayed on top of the moon because the Glasklart style was applied seperately and look slightly different. I have positioned the moon between the clouds as it would look like when the clouds are overlayed in the app. This way the clouds will fit right in because they will match the moon in terms of how the Glasklart style looks. These are the things you learn after many hours of testing. P.S. If you think I sound annoyed, etc. - I'm not  (never can be sure how someone will read what you write online).

P.P.S. Very tired today - shovelled snow off the drive way, helped shovel my neighbour's driveway, and helped push stuck cars for about 3 hours total, we got hammered with a snow storm. I think somewhere close to 25 inches of snow today.

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike be safe! And have some fun with it => :snowflake: :snowman:

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@jfelchner Haven't seen this much snow for a long time, and the crazy thing is that there was not one bit of snow of the ground yesterday!

Also, I don't want to promise anything - but I think I can fairly easily make custom backgrounds for all you guys who aren't big fans of the Glasklart background. 576x750 is the max area (for 640*960 screens), otherwise I'd have to cut it off.

dreamnet commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike It's up.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Ok @dreamnet, @sinfool (sorry - I think I called you slipko by accident), or @vinstic; apply glasklart style to this and then i'll upload the theme! http://i1169.photobucket.com/albums/r513/TheMagnaMike/partlyTemplate_zps09114974.png cloud

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@vinstic Perfect! Thanks. :grinning:

I've tested it pretty much the most I can, I added many different locations to get different forcasts to see most of the weather conditions. It should work great, but as always, if there is anything that looks strange to you, be sure to tell me. Enjoy!

Download!:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1qlxh7884ggh2cu/Glasklart%20Weather%20iOS%206.zip

If you want a custom background, just ask. All you have to do is supply me with a 576x750 image or larger (but the extra will be cut off). :+1:

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike going to close this for now. I think we're past the 'beta' stage.

THANK YOU for all the hard work on this. I know it wasn't easy, but the results look phenomenal.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Thanks for the compliments! :grinning: But I also have to thank you guys - couldn't have done it without all you.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@vinstic Have you installed UIKit Tools? It should fix it.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@vinstic You need it for weather app to work, no other way around it I believe. Also i don't think you can have AppSync installed (thats what the UIKit Tools download says in the description).

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Download New backgrounds to match @Tr1pTr0p's changes to the Glasklart Background and support for 1136px long screens.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

Hmm...don't take this just yet, unless you already have. I have to fix one of the images.

jfelchner commented 11 years ago

@MagnaMike I was just going through it. I think the filenames are wrong as well. Default-568h@2x~iphone.png.png for example.

MagnaMike commented 11 years ago

@jfelchner Whoops. Fixed. Also, I forgot a image for iPhone 5, but its in the new download. Fixed that one image I mentioned, and updated the source file in the drop box. Everything should be good. Also, I'll let you handle the optimizations...I think its 24MB  Download
