Turnkey: evaluate gRPC #237

We expose part of our system via Python and R libraries; we could use gRPC and protocol buffers to let users of other languages develop code.

gRPC does not have an R implementation, and I do not see recommended RPC libraries on curated lists of packages. I asked the community if they intend to support R.
