In a recent broadcast, CDC Africa and the WHO announced a new partnership to combat incident management and response to the Mpox outbreak. Both organizations will be working together for case surveillance.
On 2024-08-28 the WHO released a global trends publication for mpox. Table 2.4 shows the number of cumulative confirmed cases, new confirmed cases, confirmed case deaths, and clade information by country. At the moment, our case numbers are based on CDC Africa reports only, and we have a couple hundred fewer confirmed cases in our line list compared to the WHO. The team will continue to review and compare both sources to make updates

Comparing ACDC suspected counts and WHO suspected counts:
On the weekly csv, WHO's cumulative suspected counts are cumulative since 2022, so keep that in mind when comparing WHO and ACDC. WHO does include new suspected cases per week. Will do a more detailed comparison during my next shift.

Curators have identified differences between WHO Regional Office for Africa Weekly Epidemiological Reports and the Africa CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Weekly Report, specifically for the DRC data related to this ongoing mpox outbreak.
For consistency, we have used the weekly Africa CDC reports as a primary source to build our epidemiological linelist and track suspected / confirmed cases counts by location. Africa CDC reports have been released in a timely manner and presented relatively up-to-date information.
Data enhancement is ongoing using national / local reports to identify additional, relevant metadata.
Our curation team is working to understand differences in WHO<>CDC data for countries other than DRC. This work in ongoing.
