Potential Second Case of H5N1 in Vietnam #5

On 2024-06-24, the WHO released a new summary and risk assessment on influenza at the human-animal interface. The information covers human cases between May 4-June 7 2024. The report mentions a "new" human case of H5N1 in Vietnam from March that we do not have currently in our line list. I did a cross-search between this information and information from our original government source to confirm that this case reported by the WHO is unique/new. While this appears to be the second case of H5N1 from Vietnam, other official sources (CDC technical report, say that Vietnam only has one confirmed H5N1 human case, not two. We should look for an official report from Vietnam, but it is possible that this case is not being counted since additional samples on March 28th came back as negative for H5N1 (see quote below). Should we enter this case into our line list?

Direct quote from the source: According to initial epidemiological investigations in China, the case had been exposed to live poultry in Viet Nam prior to the onset of illness and no further cases associated with this person were detected. On 30 March, the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza at the Chinese National Influenza Center (CNIC) confirmed the detection of influenza A(H5N1) in the sample collected at the port of entry... [The case] travelled to China on 28 March and returned to Viet Nam on the same day. On the same day, after receiving information from the port of entry in China, local health authorities in Viet Nam visited her residence, transferred her to a health clinic for examination and isolation after receiving information from the port of entry in China, and collected additional respiratory samples. These samples tested negative by RT-PCR at the Quang Ninh Province Disease Control Center. Results were received the same day, testing negative for A(H5N1), SARS-CoV-2, respiratory syncytial virus, and influenza A and B viruses on 28 March."

@aimeehan1 i am pretty sure this case is not being counted as a confirmed case since multiple samples tested negative
