Discussed on curator call, 2024-10-16.
WHO's suspected count includes confirmed cases. See *footnote 1 in their table.
So, the total suspected counts as of 2024-10-13 is 34,030 total cases - 6,962 confirmed = 27,068 suspected cases
G.h case counts for suspected cases will be increased to match WHO's numbers as of 2024-10-13. +5,393 suspected cases
G.h counts updated to 34,030 total cases including 6962 confirmed and 27068 suspected. OWID notified of change.
From Jan - Sep 24, G.h reported case data from the Africa CDC (ACDC) weekly intelligence report.
In these reports, DRC cases were typically reported within a country-level paragraph update as 'Cumulatively, X cases among which Y cases were laboratory confirmed and Z deaths.' G.h has been able to calculate suspected cases as the delta from cumulative minus confirmed; Suspected=(X-Y)
The 2024-09-30 report provided the following update:
The October 6th and 12th reports did not provide country-level details, only the number of confirmed cases and deaths.
G.h has been unable to update suspected cases from ACDC reports since 2024-09-30.
The WHO provides weekly counts in their Africa dataset, available for download.
WHO case counts differ from (are typically higher than) ACDC numbers, and it is unclear if WHO's suspected count includes their confirmed cases. For consistency in data, G.h has reported ACDC case numbers in 2024, but we need to decide if we will switch to using WHO's dashboard / data download and how best to go about retroactively adding the data as their Date_report do not align with ACDC's Date_report.
Strategy to be discussed.
