Add support for private recipients notes on submissions #1957

Open evilaliv3 opened 7 years ago

evilaliv3 commented 7 years ago

This ticket is to enable recipient to add "private" notes on submissions that are visibile only among recipients.

NSkelsey commented 7 years ago

This would require a TipNotes table with an author_id, creation_date, rtip_id and so on.

ScottHarbin commented 5 years ago

Will this be available?

evilaliv3 commented 5 years ago

@ScottHarbin: currently this ticket is only an idea and no implementation has still been performed.

elbill commented 3 years ago

@evilaliv3 what would be worth considering is to repurpose the private messages for being private among recipients and not transparent to the whistleblower. Or use a similar implementation regarding private recipients notes. I'm not sure what is the use of private messages (haven't found any real use in my case studies). I believe that the case of private recipients notes on submissions would be much more popular and improve the case management capabilities of the platform.

evilaliv3 commented 3 years ago

@elbill actually for the feedback collected:

Many users ask for the following missing features:

I think we could analyze this three options and evaluate how we could design them in relation to issues of UI/UX and without adding too many options and complexity.

What do you think?

elbill commented 3 years ago

@evilaliv3 I have prioritised features

1) for the possibility to exchange private messages among recipients (this is an easy extent of the current implementation) Definately yes and first in rank because of easy implementation and usefulness 2) for the possibility to set a final summary of the report visible or not to the whistleblower Definately yes. It is something we are missing.

Goes without saying that 1&2 will make system a "proper" CMS with little or no complexity added.

3) to make it possible to have private annotations for them selves or for the internal team Not sure unless I see an example. Could add complexity. Would prioritise this as 3rd in rank.

chrgerber commented 3 years ago

I second elbill's comment. I actually was trying to find out, what the setting "Enable private annotations" actually does - because I thought this could be feature no. 1 discussed here. However, since this is still a open ticket, I support the feature request for the possibility to exchange private messages among recipients.

elbill commented 3 years ago

@chrgerber this feature combined with a "resolution" textbox when closing the case visible to recipients in my modest opinion would put GL at a different level.

elbill commented 3 years ago

@evilaliv3 any update on private recipient messages (and final summary)? Since sharing of reports between recipients works great, this is what we have been missing :-)

strinux commented 3 years ago

@evilaliv3 i did see you deleted my future request didnt not see it did exist here - i ask same question as elbil, is theire any update on private recipient message ?

evilaliv3 commented 3 years ago

Thank you for the question @strinux!

At the moment there is no update unfortunately. We try to keep all our development open and anytime we have an update you could read it on the related ticket.

danielvaknine commented 2 years ago

Hi, I would also like to second @elbill 's comment about prioritising the small changes that are not (at least relatively) very complex.

Is there any timeline for when private chats can be used amongst recipients only?

evilaliv3 commented 2 years ago

Thank you for your question @danielvaknine

Actually globaleaks is an open source software with an open source community. We coordinate every effort inviting users to always publish development as they move it forward so that every user is updated about the development so that if you do not see any update on a ticket it means that there is no active development on the ticket.

We invite you and other contributors if interested to participate directly in the evolution of the software by possibly implementing the feature themselves and proposing a pull request that will be carefully review by us fast and proper integration into the official software. Please consider this especially if you run a business where you can invite your clients to contribute to the improvement of the software by funding the development of the features that they urge.

Thank you and please let me know if you have any question.

I inform you all that our team is trying to expand and we have just published two open positions. Please feel free to make the announcement circulate in your network to possibly reach good candidates: https://twitter.com/GlobaLeaks/status/1537368149871497217 Thank you if you could.

I would like to +1 this feature request. We've had questions from clients that would like to use the platform additionally as case management.

They would find it interesting to be able to have internal notes added to the report so that all recipients know what has been done and to keep a track of the investigation. Along with notes, they asked if they could upload files just as reference to an investigation but without sharing the data with the whistle blower.

Thanks!

danielvaknine commented 1 year ago

We agree! It would probably make the case management a lot easier while making sure that any sensitive information is kept within the platform where it can be stored securely (even if it's not shared with the whistleblower)

Update:

As GlobaLeaks team we are supporting this implementation within a project with the Italian National Authority for Anticorruption and in the recent GlobaLeaks weekly meetings the globaleaks community has designed the following idea that taking into account all the previous discussions, will be soon implemented

The recipient interface will soon feature three tabs:

The three tabs at least for the moment will just feature the same exact interfaces of Comment and Files that will be shown according to the tab selection and the respective visibility.

danielvaknine commented 1 year ago

This sounds like an excellent solution!

Do you already have interface suggestions? We could think of some on our end too.

msmannan00 commented 1 year ago

sounds like an interesting idea to make the reporting system more customizable, would love to help in the implementation of this feature if needed

evilaliv3 commented 1 year ago

Thank you @msmannan00

This is actually a feature that we are already developing. It was discussed in the last calls and will be developed by a development team formed by the italian national authority for anticorruption
