3. what we need to concentrate on to a) get the best first ‘observation’ of how global governance has changed, and b) set things up for GGO to persist into PANARCHIC II or whatever comes next

Strategies

• Identify relevant treaties and formal organisations working in the domains (as far back as possible historically)
  • Online search (snowballing) for articles and websites eg. through related:(URL) Google search
  • Using organisational archives eg. League of Nations archives
  • Using news media
• Connecting data on treaties and IGOs in terms of activities/domains
• Classify existing data on actors into categories (formal, informal, private)
• Continue verifying metadata (Anders and Diego)

Looking for informal/private actors

• Identify central IGOs and treaties in each domain eg. WHO, WTO, multilateral trade and environmental agreements
• Identify contentious issues, events, or debates in each domain that have occurred over time
• Identify types of informal and private actors in trade, environment, and health
  • Trade: labour unions, farmers and producer groups, business associations, transnational activist networks (eg. Trade Knowledge Network)
• Look for informal and private actors in the partnerships list of organisational websites, news reports, organisational reports and documents of treaty negotiations, reports from meetings/summits for treaties/IGOs, or in news articles or organisational reports on major events (like protests or breakdown in negotiations)
• possible sources: Online search (snowballing) for articles and websites: eg. related:(URL) google search; state/organisational archives eg. League of Nations, UN, WTO archives
• For organisations: coding of domains that the organisation is active in
