Hi,

I think this is a good introduction, well done!

A couple of comments:

@goodmami, @arademaker, @ do you have any comments?

I am trying to give lots of feedback now, I hope it helps.

Rohitesh-Kumar-Jain commented 4 years ago

Thank you for the feedback, I will address all the comments, but for the table of contents should I include in this PR, or in next PR, as I am still learning Flask, it might take a bit longer if it needs to be included in this one.

A couple of comments:

  • it would be good if the images could be set off a bit more --- maybe just more whitespace? It is hard to see the boundaries. I generally don't like borders, but maybe something would be good here.
  • with this much information a table of contents would be useful (which at some stage should go into the left margin).
  • "Concepts are synsets that represent a class of things of interest". For us, concepts are the general term for nodes in our semantic network, with language specific representations being synsets. You can have a concept which is not lexicalized in a particular language. Maybe something like "Concepts are abstract ideas or general notions in our minds, we represent them as nodes in the OMW graph which are linked to synsets in individual wordnets"?
  • It would be better with more hyperlinking. e.g. link to the sqlite3 glob page for GLOBs, to the relation documentation for documentation and so forth.
  • I think it may have, if anything, too many screenshots. I don't think all the glob variants need a screenshot!
  • Finally, as we get more images, I think it makes sense to make a new directory under static (say img) and put them all there, maybe with sub directories. I have a personal preference for no spaces in directory or file names, so maybe put your pictures under img/docs/search?

It looks nice to me. It would be nice to be able to test as soon as possible. The interface can be deployed in a test environment/address?

fcbond commented 4 years ago

It is pretty easy to deploy locally.

We have a test up here: https://lr.soh.ntu.edu.sg/omw/omw but it needs to be updated (I am waiting for a few more changes).

goodmami commented 4 years ago

I agree with most of your comments, @fcbond.

I think the images really need some kind of border, though, because currently it's hard to tell what is actual OMW interface and what is a screenshot. The border could be done with CSS and should be fairly subtle (thin, low contrast, or maybe a drop shadow). Even better is to additionally fade the parts that are not pertinent. For example, below is an image from GitHub's documentation (while I'm not terribly fond of the drop-shadow border they give to the focused part, it does effectively draw the eye):

Giving a new repository a name

(edit If you visit the page where I got the image from (here), you'll notice it has a border there while it doesn't in this issue. They are using different CSS for their documentation.)

The text preceding an image needs a stronger heading so it's clear that the image is related to it.

And I want to echo the preference for shorter, no-space file paths.

Rohitesh-Kumar-Jain commented 4 years ago

Hi team, I have tried to resolve the review comments I am planning to fade the parts that are not pertinent in the next PR, please let me know what else do I need to include in my next PR.

Great improvement.

Can you fix a couple more things: The table of contents should probably be more hierarchical (and the headers in the document)

The head section should include a description of these elements: n ✪ ⟪i67543⟫ (POS, core synset, link to ili)

The section on Hints is a little hard to follow. Can you simplify it a bit? Something like: "Many elements have short explanations that will be shown if you hover over them. If you click on them, they will lead you to more detailed information. E.g., if you want to know what hypernym means, you can hover your pointer over hypernym.".

Hi team, I have tried to resolve the following comments: 1) table of contents is made more hierarchical 2) head section created. 3) Non-pertinent parts faded. 4) Hints section is modified

Additionally, I felt that the search bar needed an adjustment, and there was a need for the creation of an Examples subsection. I included that in this commit.

I will be glad to make further enhancements in this page. If no enhancements are required, I will be delighted to see my contribution getting merged.
