Quotes about the auto-hide digit button copies from a lengthy email:

What purpose does the "Auto-hide digit buttons" option serve. In other words,
in which case would a user want to hide the buttons?

Was a suggestion from a user to reduce distraction, though not sure how much
sense it makes to keep it. We could remove and watch for comments from users.

I really see no added value in this function. I find it very distracting. In
the usagelog of version 1.96 all preferences are logged and we can see how many
users actually use it. In the big picture of the UI for version 2.0 the
controls have been removed entirely.

Is the "auto-hide digit buttons" option toggling hiding whenever, wherever when
tapping within the puzzle working as intended? If so why hide when selecting an
empty cell?

The toggling does not always work correctly. As I see no value add in this
function I have not tried to improve this. I will just wait for an issue to
appear magically. Then I will decide whether I will put effort in correcting it.

Changing auto-hide digit buttons while buttons are hidden does not make them

Dependent on whether this option is being removed.

Sometime you have to click a few cells to get it back. Please create an issue
if this needs to be solved in version 1.96.

When auto-hide digit buttons is checked it is no longer possible to use the
behaviour we suggest possible in the hint dialogue. Namely double tapping to
change modes.

I'm thinking its time to remove auto-hide. It creates too many problems. As-is,
the option seems simple to have, but you've outlined numerous issues that this
brings up, so perhaps we should remove it...

You have really passed the test exam.... I knew this bug existed but was waiting for somebody else to notice it. It can be solved quite easily by adding another resource string for text to display in case controls are hidden. On the other hand the user will not learn about double tapping. Let wait till release 2.0 to decide on this. I will create an issue to discuss this again.

Removed option to hide the digit buttons automatically in revision 334.
According to the usage logging of version 1.96 this option was only used by 7
users.

Unfortunately the issue has not been verified explicitly by an independent
tester.
