i'd like to see out eyecandy screen overlay in there; can probably set the
uivie background to an image, or make the background xparent via the color
in some way

I don't think eye candy is necessarily a number one priority, but it is 
something we should do.

For a temporary workaround, you can press <bullet>-L, as described on the
TipsAndTricks wiki.

I'd prefer that a double-tap hides the keyboard. It did this on an old version 
that I
tried, but not the newer one with the arrow/control wheel. Or make this action
configurable.
