Russ Miller inquiry - new buoy site function: communications of rollout #22

"Maybe most importantly: Has the new portal been tested with community partners? I expect we'll get a lot of frustrated emails because of the discontinuation of greatlakesbuoys.org. Even if functionality is enhanced (adding the weather forecast to the page, and the wave forecast to the graph is neat!) the change in appearance will be a shock to many users after 8 years of uglos and greatlakesbuoys. If community partners are onboard it will help the transition because they often get questions about the buoys before we do.

I'm guessing why the transition is being made, but I'd like to have the official response ready, and be able to explain the benefits to anyone who asks."

I believe that would be a GLOS task? We definitely have engaged the commentary from experts such as @everhamme and @gcutrell as well as MTRI.

Well those are two people who work there and the people who ran the other site, so I wouldn't count that as a giant user community. I just wanted to capture this, it's really not his business whether we tested it or not. Just a communications thing for me to think about.
