on the website there are 2 versions: 1.9.x and 1.8.x. Can someone explain the difference?

any demo of the front end online somewhere I could see?

1.8 is a standalone, 1.9 is component for Joomla.

I have an error when I try to install it on the XAMPP

PHP setting mbstring.http_input. PHP setting mbstring.http_output.

How could I solve this problem?
