masks not appearing on image once edited

Problem description

when i edit an image using the image occlusion editor, and add masks to it, i click add image, and it doesn't put the masks that i've just made into the question mask section. so i cant create image occlusions

i tried using anki 2.0 and 2.1 with their respective versions of the image occulsion add on, but nothing has worked. using a mac OS high sierra v10.13.6
