Question: Why are some areas not included in the polygon? #1

First of all thank you for sharing these files.

I am a complete noob to mapping data so forgive me if it's a silly question. But why are some towns/cities not included in the county polgyon?

For example Nottinghamshire pictured below, does not include the city of Nottingham within it? I noticed similar Leicestershire not including Leicester, Dorset doesn't include Bournemouth area and so on. Makes me think there must be a reason but I don't know why 😄

It's a good question. To be honest I don't know. I can't remember where I got this data for in the first place - presumably there's another polygon with the major city jigsaw piece...

No problem, I have since done some more digging and it is something to do with definitions and "Nottingham" is a "Unitary Authority" so is treated separately for whatever reason.

And what I am going to personally do is exactly what you say, join the puzzle pieces together (e.g. union Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Leicester and Leicestershire etc. etc.).
