I understand there are already going to be new products that will help with this. I asked Dom for clarification in an email 15Jul15.

Dom's reply that day:

I brought this up in a team meeting as I had some initial discussions about this with Temina and Jenny M. There isn’t currently a schedule for this to happen but I will keep you up to date with any developments.

The initial plan is that, yes, the new coding structure would be applied retrospectively to existing gifts. The recoding proposal does broadly match your breakdown. What was discussed was to have either three or four new campaign codes:

PPC/Search Display (including Retargetting) Social (possible) Other Online
