Is the image format RAW+JPG when you enable 'Display next JPG' in LRTimelapse?

The problem with RAW files is that they are huge and the download over USB
takes long time. That is why LRTimelapse help screen downloads and displays the
JPG file. That is achieved so that when you check the 'Display next JPG' the
application switches the capture format to RAW+JPG and after the capture is
finished it downloads and displays the JPG because it is fast to download and
display. With 2 options in settings you can control if the JPG will be deleted
from camera sdcard and also from your Android device. Just image you shooting a
timelapse with interval 5 sec and the download of RAW on some cameras with
higher mpix can take up to 10sec. If you would use an external intervalometer
it would fail to initiate or it would interrupt the file transfer. If used the
internal timelapse function it would fail to initiate the capture until the
file transfer is finished.

Just an example while I was testing the 'Auto Holy Grail' (still in
development) with the Canon 650D. I was using the DD time-lapse function and
the interval was 20sec. When the shutter was at 15sec, DD was sometimes failed
to initiate the capture as the write to sdcard and the JPG download was longer
then 5sec. At 22sec interval it worked without any problem. Depends on your
camera, sdcard. With external intervalometer the situation is different, but I
don't have so can't tell you. Hope I will get one that I can use with Nikon and
Canon to for testing.

Actualy, I am not able to check image format during router connected with
camera. Today, I tried this again with Canon 550D and .030.28. If I set RAW+JPG
before start shooting, it works. But If I start timeplase shooting, capture
image one by one, it will not work. Image still cannot be shown. And I found
that I cannot changed shooter speed during timelapse shooting. If I trigger
shooter manually, I can change the shooter speed. This occurs on 0.30.28. Is it
delay of router? I am using router to do timelapse. Thanks.

I tried the interval time 3s and 10s. Both do not work. I will do more test
with it, thanks.

I tried OTG, the situation is the same. Shooter speed cannot be set when using
intervalometer. And image is not shown after check "display after capture" when
using intervalometer. If I trigger camera manually, the image can be shown.
Then I found that I cannot tigger shooter speed on camera when intervalometer
is working, but I can set shooter speed on camera when intervalometer is
working.

What interval did you use? Can you change the shutter speed if intervalometer
is connected but not started?

I am using yongnuo MC-36, I can change shutter speed during intervalometer is
working. Only the shutter button on camera cannot be triggered.
And I also can change the shutter speed with DD (Dslrdashboard) when
intervalometer is connected but not started.
I just purchased a new intervalometer, I will get it in next 2 days. And I will
got a Canon 5D3 in Next 2 weeks, then I will try it again.

It is my fault. I just find that I make a wrong setttings on intervalometer. I
set the "long" to 10s and "intvl" to 1s, I should set "long" to 1s and "intvl"
to 10s. "long" 10s means press shutter button 10s, so the shutter speed cannot
be set. Now it works. But as you said, if the intvl time is too short, there
will be no enough time to upload the jpg image to android client. So I think
the bug is fixed. Thank you very much~

On Canon 650D when the camera is in RAW+JPG it creates the largre JPG (same
size as the RAW) and that needs a bit more time to transfer. Not sure on
other Canon models. On Nikon you can select the size and quality for the
JPG that is generated with the RAW image.

Yes, you are right. For low price canon camera, such as 650D, 550D, RAW+JPG,
only support large JPG. But for mid and high, it suppout more option. As I
know, for 5D3, you can set RAW+large/mid/small JPG. I will got a 5D3 next week,
and I will try it. Thanks.
