Here is how the upgrade process works from there. With your permission, we would grant one of your server IDs access to upgrade. The next time that instance(s) checks in with our MUS(Sometime within an hour or you can click check for updates in the web ui to immediately check), it will download the newest software version and begin the upgrade. The upgrade process itself only takes a matter of minutes. Once it completes, your NetAcuity Server software will automatically restart (creating about 30 seconds of an outage where your NetAcuity Server will not be able to respond to queries), and then the upgrade process will be complete.
We can upgrade one instance at a time (or multiple), during our normal business hours, where someone on your end can monitor the upgrade, and respond to our confirmation of its completion.
The following are the steps the NetAcuity Server takes during an upgrade.
Downloads a tar/gzip file from the Update Server.
The files for the new version will be installed in a separate subdirectory inside the "bin" directory, named by version. e.g. bin/6.1.0.14/
Unzips and untars the downloaded tar/gzip upgrade file.
If an error/exception is thrown during the upgrade, the bin/netacuity-server.version will not be updated to point to the new version, and the old version files will still be in place.
The same shell script which launched the NetAcuity server will check the exit code, and re-launch the NetAcuity Server once the upgrade is complete.
We need to upgrade our NetAcuity installations before June to the latest version in order to accomodate larger NetAcuity Pulse downloads.
