Hi, There are two main packages in R to fit mixed models, 'nlme' and 'lme4'. They have different capabilities as we'll see. I use nlme for most of my work but, for some purposes, lme4 is adequate and easier to use. 'nlme' creates 'lme' and 'nlme' objects (a generalization of 'lm' objects) and 'lme4' creates 'lmer' (pronounced elmer), 'glmer' (pronounced glimmer) and 'nlmer' (pronounced ????) objects. All the best, Georges
