hi, seems I have either to buy this device or an old Netgear DM200 and have my beloved Linksys 3200ACM chained to it

u gave up on this?

else I go for an TP-Link VC420-G3v if I have no choice on the OS

I too, would really love to know if anyone has been able to get OpenWRT installed and working on the ASUS DSL-880U, because I'd like to customise the software a bit.

The latest official firmware (from ASUS) for this router is "v1.10.08 build593 Aug. 16, 2021", and it's not completely terrible, but it is missing features and has some minor issues as well.

I dunno so much the details of it.. but I believe it will be a little bit of work to get it working.. I am not sure how much DSL-AC88U are out there and if this would make sense.. honestly if you are not a developer I would rather sell it and buy a DSL-AX82U or DSL-AC68U with Merlin.
